Bird Seed Wreath
I love making Bird Seed Wreaths for my friends each year to give as gifts. They are super easy to make and everyone loves them...especially the birds.1/3 Cup Cornstarch1/2 Cup Warm Water3 Tablespoons Light Corn Syrup1 1/2 Packages of Unflavored Gelatine4 Cups of Bird Seed With Nut & BerriesDried CranberriesMoldsNon Stick Cooking SprayI like using the small molds.Plastic StrawsSpray molds or Bundt pans and set aside.
Spray the back of a spatula and set aside.
On stove top over medium heat, stir together water and Gelatine until dissolved.
Whisk in Corn Starch and Corn Syrup.
Stir until if forms a thick paste.
Once the mixture has thickened add the birdseed.
Make sure your pan has been sprayed with Nonstick cooking spray.
Place a few cranberries at the bottom of the pan.
Cut a plastic straw more than the depth of your pan and the straw standing upwards towards the top of the mold but away from edge at least 1".
Once the mixture is pressed around the straw the straw will serve as the place to feed the string or wire through. The straw will stay in the mold.
Pour mixture into Sprayed pan and around the straw.
Use back of spatula to press mixture firm into pan, packing it tightly around the straw.
Place in refrigerator and allow to dry several hours.
Once mixture is hard to touch, carefully remove mold and place on lined baking sheet to air dry for a few days. Trim excess straw.
Add a nice ribbon for hanging through the straw hole and place in a cello bag tied off with a piece of twine to give as your gift.
